Help Welcome Current Gusties Back!

Dear Gusties,

Thanks for your overwhelming response over the last several weeks. As you know, the College is doing well, and alumni support has been the cornerstone of its recovery. To continue this alumni effort, I am asking you to come to St. Peter this Sunday for an event that will be very important in the life of the College. If you're not in Minnesota right now but have been considering a trip back, maybe now is the time.

We are arranging for alumni to come to campus this Sunday, April 19th, to welcome all the current Gusties back to campus after their four-week tornado hiatus. The goal is to show the students and their parents that the Gustavus community will go the extra mile to ensure the health of the College. The Alumni office is making T-Shirts and name tags for each of us, showing our names and years of graduation. We will register by the flagpoles at 11 a.m. and spend the day welcoming the Gusties back and helping them to move back into the dorms.

This will be an important day for every Gustavus student, for the media covering our recovery from the tornado, and for the health and future of the College. We need to show everyone that Gusties hang together, especially when things are tough.

Here are the details:

You *must* register before Sunday--preferably by Friday--providing your name and graduation year so the office can make up your name tag.

You can register by replying to this email with a list of the names and graduation years of you and your Gustie friends that are coming, or you can register by calling the Alumni office at 1-800-GUSTIES. TELL YOUR GUSTIE ALUMNI FRIENDS ABOUT THIS, and pass along this information. The key is to tell them to register with the Alumni office at 1-800-GUSTIES or to email me at dancurrell@aol.com.

We will meet at the registration tent by the flagpoles this Sunday, April 19th, at 11 a.m.

We should park in the High School lot behind CoEd in order to keep the campus lots clear for students and their parents.

Bring water and something to eat for lunch; it will be an outdoor day, with lots of work helping people move in. The College food facilities are recovering, but they may not yet be prepared to feed a zillion (or so, perhaps fewer) hungry alumni.

Thanks for your help on this. This Sunday is going to be great. If you have any questions about this event, you can direct them to me, or of course to Barb or Randy in the alumni office.

If you want more information on the Tornado, visit the excellent website at:

which has lots of material of its own, and will direct you to at least one other website regarding Gustavus and the tornadoes.
